I have 4 old 20 gallon tanks and want to take the long pieces of glass and make 1 or 2 30x30x12 cube tanks. Anyone ever do this? I was quoted 51$ for a base piece 30"x30" of polished (which I don't need) untempered 1/4" thick glass. Looked into epoxy/plywood method but looks like a gallon of epoxy alone is like 70$ so the cost would be quite prohibitive for 1 tank and comparable for 2 but a lot more work. I could see it paying off for larger/more tanks.

Sounds doable, but breaking a piece while disassembling will ruin the whole budget so be cautious.

id say go for it. try using an electric guitar string to cut the silicone. after you get then panels separated use either a strait razor blade or a razer blade scraper to remove the rest of the silicone. also when you go to assemble the new tank, tape off all you seams so that you get nice clean lines when you apply the silicone.

you will still need need a top and bottom frame to support the glass along with center braces
