right now in my 55 galon tank i take out 50% of the water every week.
but with my 310 gallon on the way i do not want to take out 150 gallons of water every week. so im wondering witht his size tank wat would be a good amount to change and how often?

How heavily stocked will the tank be? What will the filtration be like?

I have a 300 gallon that I change out about 200 gallons a week in because of heavy feeding.

On my soon to be set up 300 I was planning on doing 25% changes once a week which would be about 75 gallons a week. But nitrate testing will ultimatly dictate how much I change.

My challenge is that I will be on a septic system and I dread putting that much extra water thru the system.

I can't remember the name but I was looking at what looks like a large bucket with holes that gets burried in a bed of gravel underground to drain to.

WHOH!!! 50% a week?! what are you gonna keep in there and how big's the sump?

Can't you drain the water outside? That's what I do on my 240. The hose goes right out the patio door.

I will be on a hill and I fear it will make channels in the yard. Maybe if I got some sort of dissipater to put on the end of the hose?

flowwell makes the best storm water leaching system you can buy easy to work with multiple units linked together with no problem but best way for you having a septic system is one of these tank water= good for lawn I have in the past burried rubbermaid 32 gallon trash cans after drilling holes is the and filled them with gravel works just as good and costs you A LOT less.. as far as the water change question filtration and stocking are needed and best way to decide is by watching your params hope this is of some use

Trash can idea sounds good.

And ditto to the water parameters dictating water changes. If you are concerned about too big of water changes then understock the tank.

hook up an irrigation garden hose to it, the type with all the holes in it.
it will spread your water over a large area < no channels.
