I noticed a few speaks of ICH on a few loaches 7 days ago, since then i've had the temp at 30 for 4 days and 32 now for the last 3 (it's okay I know what I'm doing - they are ok), however I was wondering, since 32 kills ich and dramatically speeds up the lifecycle, why the heck can i still see it on some of them. It should be at the 3rd phase by now with that temperature!

You originally asked if you could turn it down so he said go for it meaning you could turn it down.

Ya, I know, then i noticed one clown still had a few specs on it...

Can't see any evidence this morning of ich yet I thought I did last night. What the hecks going on? 32 degrees should speed this up dramatically and now thats 8 days:

4 at 30 degrees

and this last 4 at 32

What's up?

Heating the tank up speeds up the lifecycle of the ich to make it vulnerable to the salt and medication sooner. If you arent using any salt or medication to kill the ich, all you're doing is helping the ich reproduce faster.
Sure if you crank it high enough it'll slowly start to die off, but you might lose some fish in the process, and there are some strains of ich that just cant be killed with heat and then you're completely wasting your time.

Why dont you just add salt?

sometimes the heat/salt cure is not effective by itself.

I have seen strains of ich while working at the LFS that were very resistant to heat/salt and meds as well.

most times it is easy to treat.

sometimes, it can be stubborn.

lower your temperature and keep an eye on it.

Would you say it's safe to slowly bring it down to 26 degrees considering what I've just said of the 8 days i've done so far?

thanks
