Stand is 8'X2' for 320 tank and 55 gallon sump. It's all 2X6 with a 2X12 center brace. The center has 2 2X6 legs with the 2X12 brace in front. I think it should be fine but figured I'd get some opinions or suggestions to make it better or leave it alone. Thanks
That looks very good I would not touch it. If you want to paint it or stain it I would do it now before the tank goes on top. Keep in mind it's couple thousand pounds of weight going in with the water. That looks very well put together trust me I've seen many stands that are questionable lol
Hello; I agree with this to help prevent racking. Make some triangle shapes with the diagionals.
Another way to get a similar effect is to screw sheets of plywood to the back and sides. This will also help prevent racking. However from the pictures the stand as is may be quite stiff. Test by pushing sideways at a top corner.
You may have already checked and allowed for this, but dimensional lumber often has a crown. I would lay a long straight edge or 4 foot level across various places on the top of the stand to see if it lays flush.
Ths stand appears to be very srtong in terms of holding the weight.
looks plenty overbuilt already 2 me... had 2 smile when i seen the 2x12's in there lol... but it sure cant hurt. well done and nice work! i wouldnt worry at all, that thing aint goin newhere, just needs a coat of paint
I did the 2X12 cause the 2 2X6 posts were 11" wide. I am building a front for it with cabinet doors and a matching canopy as well. Ive layed the 4 foot level all over and no problems. Have close to 300 screws in it
When it comes to stands...overkill is just right. I like the 2x12. Do you have the sump already - how does it fit under the stand given the dimensions?
