Hey guys, i'm new here and would like to ask a couple of questions if i could.
Ever since I was young I always wanted to have a tank big enough to swim in and it now seems that cash wise my dream may finally come true give another year or two. So being very close now I decided it was time to really start my planning phase and gather up all the info I can.

First off I'l explain sizing and other particulars, I want my tank to be 20ft long 8ft high and 8ft deep and in litres it works out to 34,560L or around 8,884.3 us gallons, I want to build it into the main lounge room wall of my house so the face sits flush with the wall with a frame built around the face so it covers the fibreglass so that only the acrylic front is visible with the rest of the tank sitting behind the wall in another room.

So now you have the main details, here come the questions lol

1. How would you filter a mammoth tank like this? and this question is very important to me so please give the best possible answers.

2. I want to do a lake malawi setup and I've heard that the rock dwellers don't get on with the sand dwellers?
do you think in such a large tank I could have both seeing as there would be heaps of room for all?

3. Why do we men always have to have something bigger then the next guy lol

Regards Whitetip :naughty:

as for the africans, i have heard that malawans have ecological niche that if they are all occupied, and crowded enough, that they leave each other alone.... i could be wrong lol, someone correct me if unless i'm not. as for filters i am clueless.

My Dream!!! A massive Malawi tank...
You could easily house mbuna, haps, and peacocks together and have separate areas of the tank setup as different ecological habitats; A rocky reef, vallisneria bed, and a large open sandy area.

You could PM johnptc who has a 10,000 gallon tank. Here's his thread converting his 5,000 gallon tank into a 10,000 gallon tank.

arapaimag has a 15,000 gallon tank, and his legendary 50,000 gallon tank.

These two members have been there and done that....and probably are the most experienced and qualified to answer your questions regarding filtration for a tank as large as you are proposing.
