OK so my uncle has 3 tank a 35, 18 and 15 he did a water change on the 15 a day before the other two tanks and the day after he changed the water in the 35 and 15 they got really cloudy and the 35 had a major nitrite spike up to 8.0. and he lost both of his african knives he has done some w/c and this has still not helped. There was a large
here are some of the tanks stats from yesterday.

35 gallon
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 0
amonia - .25 -.5
ph - 7
clorine -0
Gh - 300
alkalinity- 180

filtering - aquaclear fro 30 g tank
- ugf
stocking list - 2 african knives RIP ~5-6 inches
- 1 dojo loach ~6 in
- 1 angelfish 4 in
- 1 senegal bichir 4 in
- 1 dragon goby ~ 5 in

and the 15 gallon no testing as of yet
filter aquaclear
ugf
corner
Stocking - 8 baby mollies
- 1 baby angel

The water almost looks like it is a cloud and it is moving aroud and is so bad that the fish have to be right up against the glass to see them. One theory about what happen is the tap water so I am going to bring some water over from my house so he can do a small W/c on the 35.

Any help whould be appreciated thanks

If he did not put the water conditioner in and did a big water change without putting it in, then he did not get out the heavy metals and chlorine and chloramine. He needs to do another water change and add stress coat as well as ammonia remover to the aqua clear filter. Then after the ammonia has left the tank pull that stage out and use either an extra carbon or bio max.

ok we went to the lfs and got amonnia remover and put it in last night. ill have to check if he put de-chlor in. but why would the 18 gallon tank be fine. it was changed the day before could there have been something wrong with the water suppley from the tap??
Also if anyone else has an answer please post it

anyne else???

Ok so declorinator was used when the waterchange was done!

Now ther is a problem the ammonia in all the tanks is in between 6.0 and 8.0 and Purigen was put in the filters last night and now the ammonia has spiked. What to do we do now since we dont want to do another waterchange just in case?? HELP

If there's that big a problem with ammonia the tanks either were not cycled properly or he somehow removed most of the cycled media.

How long have the tanks been setup, has anything been done to the filters lately?
Has he changed the gravel?

The tanks have been set up for a bit more than a year and nothing done to the filters. and no gravel changes at all

either you had something kill your bacteria, something died and is causing a huge spike, or there is severe over feeding. All you can do is find out why it went up, rectify that problem and then continue water changes until the filter catches up with the bio load.

You may also want to test your tap water.

ok sounds good. I am starting to think that the ammonia was causing the water to cloud cause while i was over there today the water started to clear up and he put purigen i think in the fitler and now it is about 50% better just in a day. I will update tomorrow when i go over
