I have a 35 gallon that is set up with a Convict, Firemouth, Bristle Nose Pleco, and a Raphael Striped Cat. I am willing to get rid of both cichlids to get new ones. My question is what would you do if you had to choose between a 30 gallon and a 35 gallon (35 has more overall room obviously but the 30 has a bigger footprint) and what would you stock it with including my two catfish? I'm thinking a single salvini. Or keeping the firemouth and throwing in some Tiger Barbs. What do you think?

Are we talking a 35g 36x13x16 and a 30g breeder 36x18x12?

The bigger footprint is generally a better choice with cichlids, but if its the breeder tank I would say no. It is just too shallow looking. I would be aiming more toward the 40g breeder which is 16" high. It just looks better.

I guess if it were me and those were the ONLY two choices, I would go with the 35g because it just looks better. But if your set on a Salvini you should go with the 30g.
