heys guys im not to far off starting the construction of my 3500L outside tank (8x4x4). And i have come across one major problem. As i live in the yarra valley Victoria it gets very cold at night so i need to heat this mass of water to around 22 degrees (as it will have a barra in it). I looked into a pool heater pump but they are around $4000. So thats out of my price range. I was thinking 2 other ways to do it

1. Having a hot water unit set at desired temperature then run a pipe from the outlet thru the tank around the edges back out and connect to the inlet so the pipe will heat my water.

2. Having a hot water unit set at 22 degrees then have a pipe take water from the tank flow through the hot water unit heat up and then exit back into the tank releasing heated water much like a canister filter but this will heat the water not filter it.

What you do think????
Any ideas???

ok not going to bother building this tank outside as it was gonna cost a fortune to heat it, it is going to be built inside when i build my house. So instead i am going to build a 1200L tank for now. Now i have a spare 4ft tank that i am going to use as a sump for this tank. I plan on having two 1 inch pipes sticking up from the bottom of tank sucking water out into the sump but i dont know what l/ph pump to get??? It will have to pump the water up about 1.5m...

Fot the sump i plan on having three dividers:
1. Full of scrubbies where water will enter(found them on ebay cant get them in aus
2. full of bio balls
3. where pump will go and heater and whateva

how does that sound i can post drawing if needed

The pump you have and the diagram you drew will work fine. Just make sure you make the overflows big and you wont have any trouble with emptying the sump as it will come back just as fast as its taken out.

so two 1" pipes will be fine with a 3500l/ph pump will be good
