The last couple months I've been struggling to keep up with everything on this site because of school/football/college process, but one of those 3 things is done, so I now have 3 extra hours everyday that I didn't have before. I've been barely scraping along with my 55, but things seem to be back on track, and now I have the potential to add a 36 gallon aquarium.

I want this to be a planted tank so I can get some more visual pleasure out of it. My 55 has taken on the role of a growout for my Bala's until I get my 200, so ever since all my plants were eaten by my tin foil barbs (wish I didn't give those up :() I havn't felt like it was necessary to replace them.

I was thinking that a black substrate would be a solid starting point. A mix of fake and artificial plants will hopefully help zap out the colors even more in the fish. I was thinking fish wise I would want 6 small CL's (don't worry, they'll find a permanent home in the big tank), a large school of neon/cardinal tetra, some Oto's to handle the algae, and well thats about all I can really think of. This is where all of you come into play. I really want one last colorful fish/group of fish to really put the tank over the top. I thought about Roseline Barbs, but not only can I only get small ones for 25 each, but I feel as if they will get too big. Nothing aggresive please, as I want this to be a calm environment. Oh and don't worry, I will definatly have a fancy pleco, I'm just not sure what kind yet. Maybe I'll get another gold nugget....

In my planted 36g bpwfront I have an angel fish pair with around 6 panda cities 8-12 neons, and 10 lemon tetras.

I really want some angelfish, but do you think that they will eventually eat the neons?

My angels couldn't care less about the neons, they spend most of the day looking at the lid watching for me to feed them.

definitely angel, see if you can find smokey or phillipine blues they look awesome.

sweet, angels it is. Do you guys think a 36 gallon is big enough to the point where you cannot use a dresser or counter and an actual stand is required?

I would never put a tank larger than 10 on anything other then a stand made for tanks...think about it that's 8 pounds x 36 gallons which adds up to 288 pounds and honestly man you don't want 36 gallons of water on the floor or a beautiful tank to be ruined by an ugly stand. Also a petstore close by has a display with angels and cardinals and they are perfectly fine but the cardinals are full grown and you would be surprised at how big they can actually grow.

right, I highly doubted that I could get by without a stand, but I was just curious. I've definatly seen full grown cardinals and they are much bigger than you would suspect.

Yeah and wouldn't you have peace of mind knowing that your tank will not crash to the ground. And yeah I seen full grown cardinals and was amazed they are way bigger then I though possible just like bleeding heart tetras
