hey guys,

i newly acquired a 36gal bow.....and i am really looking at african cichlids:

-i was hoping to have some varities in color (blues, oranges,

-i was definately focused more on mbuna for the most part

-i kind of want to overstock just a bit (as for aggression, variety, and activity, but safely)

-i would like fish that max out at 4", i might upgrade my tanks in about two years, so if there is a fish that gets bigger but grows slow and can be put in a 55 for the rest of their life im open for that

-also been interestested in Steatocranus casuarius "buffalo head", and if i can put one in with mbuna?, that would be sweet, also any information also would be apreciated

right now i just have a powerfilter (60gallon type), aragonite for substrate, plenty of hide n' seek places

thanks guys, your suggestions will be greatly apreciated.
i know my thank is far from ideal for any fish, but until i finish college, my limitations are that of my CA/SA 55 gal, and my new 36 gal......

heres my tank.....its being cycled with my barbs from the 55....

not sure a buffalohead would do great in a small tank with a lot of mbuna, I know that it can work, but not enough floor space for them all...

I would think a few of the dwarfs will work... good luck...

its a small tank for lake malawi cichlids, but like mike suggested go with some dwarf type cichlids.. i would go with a single group of rusties, and a couple yellow labs, but thats just me..

thanks guys, im looking at lake victorian cichlids now as well, any input will be apreciated, but i realize this is a small tank and its hard to give advice on stock lists of this size, in the end it will depend with my LFS has, i dont like ordering fish from online

thanks

I'd go with the yellow labs and demasoni. They're both easy to get at the LFS. If you're not interested in breeding and don't plan to keep the babies if they do breed you can go to Petco or something like that and get a few of the "colorful" cichlids you find. Just make sure you research which ones they are first. You definitely don't want a nimbochromis (hap) in that small tank.

It would make a nice Saulosi species tank.
