I believe it was for a couple reasons. I think it was mainly becuase of their rarity in the wild, and I think they may have even been threatened in the wild. However, it may have been because the government didn't want it to be released into native waters. I'm not really sure. I'm sure it will say why in the arowana forum, so you may want to check there.

if you check the only people who have bidded on it is the same person. twice!!

Rofl, it's the seller bidding on his own auction...

i might be wrong, but i just don't see anyone selling an asian aro that expensive saying LOL in his thread

The Main reason yes is because their numbers are critically endangered in its native habitat due to over fishing and thats why the CITIES have made them totally illeagal to transport, sell, breed, or own over US boarders. The only time that an Asian Arowana may be leagal to own on US soil is if you have a certified one but only major public aquariums get those privleges. There are many Asian Aros in the US that have been smuggled but if you get caught with an illeagal one (via by checking the chip implanted under its scales) then you may get a serious fine and years of prision time. Only captive breed Asian Aros get sold and every single one that is officialy breed has a chip implanted in it.
