hello everyone new to the forums and this is my first post. I recently had to get rid of my 55 gallon. My moms Oscar tank cracked and she needed a tank pronto. So I gave her the 55. It was home to one Jack Dempsey. I had a spare 37 gallon on a stand cycled with roses reds(not for bait I just liked them) so I had no choice but to put my Jack Dempsey in their. I have a UGF 1 40gallon rated hob and 1 30gallon rated hob running on the tank. Would my Jack Dempsey be able to live his/her life in that tank or would I have to upgrade.

in my experience they arent the fastest growers. what are the dimensions of the tank?

you still have some time. you dont want an 8" fish in that tank though. Ive seen a jack get to 12". so simply answer your question, no that isnt a suitable longterm home. but it last you another 6 months.

6 months. Perfect. By that time I'll definitely be able to plan for either another 55 or a 75 and I'll get him/her a boyfriend or girlfriend. Thanks for the help

The only issue I can see it that next few weeks...there is no more rosy red for you lol

Check Craigslist for a good used 75 gallon. You can sometimes find a tank and stand pretty cheap. He'll be happier in there.

I agree. Go with a 75. I upgraded from a 55 to a 75 and I will never buy a 55 again lol
