realisticly how many full grown clowns can I put in an 8' x 2.5' tank with 1x arowana, 5x datnoids, 1x flagtail? I want to know how many clowns I can fit in this tank for life? Assuming a clown gets to 8-9".

Three. Maybe one guppy too. They take forever to get any sort of size on them. I don't think you'll be wanting to shell out the money for 4-5" loaches so they won't get chomped in those sort of numbers you're looking at.

I keep 51 4"-9" in my 6x2 with no issues with other tankmates. As long as the water changes are frequent (mine 5-6 days). I've even gone as far as eliminating all the driftwood out for the very first time a couple weeks ago. They are less shy this way. Have large indo dats and NGT that won't try to swallow a clown unless they are 2.5" or smaller. You'll be fine with a shoal larger than 3" in my opinion. Just depends on the personalities of your aro and dats.
