hey guys, i have a 39 gal in my room (moved dad's discus out of the tank!) with a lone male pink convict. he reminds me of a 'mini midas' :)
im kinda looking for cichlids with personality, kinda like a 'wet pet' and the con looks so small all by himself. are there any fish that i could put in with him? or is a full grown male con going to be too much fish in a 39 gal tank?
i like the look of the salvini or maybe even a firemouth?
any suggestions?

Ditch the con and get a nice shoal of exodons.........you wont regret it ;)

putting another territorial cichlid in a 39 with an adult male con would be asking for trouble imo. you might try adding some dithers like some giant danios maybe. what are the exact dimensions of the tank?

:)

Add some clown loaches. They have more personality than any fish I have seen.

whoa thanks for the quick replies!

freeskierrocket - i cant find exodons anywhere in melbourne! they seem like cool fish too. pity that

Jason_S - the tank is 36" long, 18" high and 14" wide.

ewurm - i think the clown loaches might get too big for the tank. they prefer a school too dont they?

 maybe ill just stick to the lone male con :) with giant danios as dithers

I think this might be your best bet if you want a "wet pet". Also you don't have to use giant danios as dithers. You can try other things too. Pretty much anything will work as long as the con can't eat it.
