I’ve recently purchased a 3d background, in two parts to fit my 4 foot tank. I already had fish present in my tank so chose to use gold pond sealant which is fine to use and cure in a functioning tank. For a few days I used the gravel and rocks to keep the background in place. I thought all was fine until a few weeks later the backgrounds popped out and we had water spraying everywhere, luckily my OH was home to quickly put a stop to the damage.
My suspicion is the buoyancy force of the foam background slowly pulled the background away from the sealant as the sealant didn’t really have a grip of the background.
I want to put the background but only if I can avoid a repeat of the above. The options I think I have are:
1 empty the tank (relocate fishes/filters on a temp basis) and use the same sealant and ensure it has cured before refilling.
2 Use an aquarium glue such as juwel conexo and hope this is tougher than gold pond sealant?
I can’t think of any other options but happy to consider the thoughts of this forum?
