3d background and filter intake

Ok so I'm getting my 90g set up and I bought this 3d background fro the back of the tank. I will have 2 Emperor 400s on the tank. One the the intakes will not fit because the background is in the way. I don't think you can just cut the background, can you? If anybody can help Thanks

You might have to trim or cut some of the background. I had to for my canister filter. Most of these backgrounds need trimming to fit in the tank anyway.

is it bad if the water gets behind it?
Won't it become stagnant?

At a lfs. Its not meant to be siliconed. Substrate holds it a t bottom and there are clips for the top.
