Ive been a member for a couple years.... but ive lost my login info so had to create a new one.

Anyways i wanted to share my newest background i molded directly from a rock formation. Get your ideas seeing as i will most liekly be making them for peoples tanks.

Materials used are the same that places like designsbynature.com and aquaterra.com use.

I cast a mold off of actual rocks, cliffs etc so literally every detail is reproduced.

Here just a couple pics lmk what you think !!!!

Hey guys thanks a bunch. Takes a.LOT of work. I wont state the materials exactly but they are a poly urethane foam. Same that the other companies use. The detail that comes from this process is absolutely stunning.

Very very nice.what are you using to paint and get the detail out of the molds?

Actually, no paint is necessary. The foam itself is colored. I can color the foam anything from black, brown, tan or even blue green red LOL.

Looks great. So is the process a trade secret or???

uhhh Kinda. I hate being stingy but i researched like crazy and spent loads of money to finally perfect it. I mean ALOT of money. because the materials are extremely expensive to create the molds. And I would love to create them and sell them. I can charge less than the other companies though by a good amount. If I tell all the info, its kind of a waste.

It is a really really fun process though.

Ill say that it involves painting the casting silicone on the rock, in many layers, then basically peeling it off and pour the foam into the mold.

Obviously not that easy lol but that is the time consuming parts.
