ok so i am setting up my 125 new world cichlid tank and saw some 3d backgrounds and thought they where cool. could i use them??? the tank is 72" x 24" x 18", L x H x W. i was looking at the olgas background that www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com sells or a few of the pet tech foam backgrounds that i would cut down to fit my tank theyre at www.pet-tech.com i might also use the backgrounds from www.exo-terra.com i could cut them. are there any other good 3d backgrounds. also what is the best color or pattern for 2d backgrounds. i was thinking the black or the ones that look like a flooded rainforest mangrove with lots of plants in them. thnx

I went 3d with my tanks and I love it. Check out my threads for more info. The 3d takes up a lot of space, something to think about if you have larger fish.

that is what kept me from going with them black is the way to go imo it brings alot more attention to the fish

i would buy the black back ground so you can switch it up once in a while. you can use blue or any other back ground to give it a new look.

ok ya i am going to use the black then after a while do a 3d if i have the money and the space in the tank. so would the foam pet tech background soak up too much water to be used in the aquarium??? thnx

If you're going to do 3d, do it now before you setup the tank. They have to be siliconed in place. Also, when posting a link to a site for people to check out and give you an opinion, make it a direct link to the product not the home page.

Just a thought, it looks like the ones on those sites are for reptiles. May not be a problem but it could if they weren't designed to be underwater.

I would paint it. I've done both. Looks much better painted. How often do you really change the background?

:headbang2I have a 3d and it's amazing looking. You can get flat rock panels that don't take up much room, maybe an inch. The larger ones can take as much as 6-8". Mine takes up about 4" at the widest spot.

http://www.aquaterra-intl.com/index.html makes the best one's IMO. The site is still there but I don't know if they are still making them. The selection on the site seems to be shrinking.

actually the foam background by pet tech is held in place by magnets, so yet again, would it take in too much water? or would it be ok? they say they are great for underwater. i actually change up my tank every now and then. thnx
