I have a 135 blk bk acrylic and saw this new BG by DBN and wanted to hear from someone that has installed it. I like it since it's not too thick, flexible (less or hopefully no snapping and reassembly) and can be held on by magnets -in case I decide to revert back to a blk BG I don't have to worry about scraping the acrylic. Thanks

Fine for rep enclosures but not for aquariums? Or is this just the foam backing?

Depending on your requirements, you may order any of the products with or without structure foam on the backside which makes the item rigid. These foamed backed items however, have been created predominately for reptile enclosures, and are NOT suitable for aquariums as they can give off toxins in the water, making it unsafe for the fish.

for it to be flexible it doesn't have the optional poisonous foam backing, raises another question why is their foam poisonous to fish and the black pond foam OK? I'll give this post a few days and contact them and post what I find out - thanks

DBN got back to me on some questions and here are their responses:

Thanks for stopping in!

The material for the actual background is completely 100% safe for all animals and fish. It's only the foam inserts that are available that are in question, it's not that they are unsafe for fish but rather never been lab tested for water quality since they were never intended for aquarium use only reptiles.

Yes they are flexible enough to fit through one opening

They are flexible enough to wrap around your overflows but would need to be siliconed to stay.

The flexible backgrounds do not float

We don't have any retailers in California.

7' pieces are available.

At the moment the rocky sheet is only available in the one color, there are other backgrounds listed on the website as flexible but the rocky sheet is the thinnest of them all and the most flexible.

I ordered an odd sized background so I had to wait for it to be made. I wanted it a little bigger to allow me to wrap or cover my intake overflow. Dealt with Matt at DBN and easy to work with. I just received it and I attached a photo of it laid out flat and another pic of the back and thickness. In the pic of the back I folded it back upon itself so you can get a sense of it's flexiblity The thing in the picture that looks like a roll of nickels are the magnets. to hold it in place. Seems very well made and flexible enough to get it inside thetank without cutting. It arrived in the cardboard box in the background folded in half. It's also fairly thin to provide more area for fish. I'll post again once installed and filled

Im glad you posted this as Im heavily considering going with this background. Please keep us posted. Looks great IMO

Thanks, glad the info is helpful - since my order was an odd size and were going to make it to order they were able to accomodate a request to make it a little darker. The surface is realistic in appearance and the texture feels like medium coarse sandpaper. When I get around to installing I'll probably cover the front with a towel or saran wrap to avoid scraping the acrylic
