i have a 200g setup that i'm going to redo, and am looking at doing a 3d background. Since i dont want to use concrete, paint, or epoxy; i was wondering if slate could be used.

the plan would be silicone Styrofoam to the back of the tank and using spray foam (greatstuff green can) to stick the slate to the Styrofoam. My question is would the pray foam hold the slate, and if so will the silicone hold the Styrofoam and slate to the back of the tank?
my other question, assuming this works can i use slate tiles or would i need any specific aquarium or underwater grade slate?

thanks in advance for the responses :D

I was tempted to do something like this with mine...lots of good info in there.
(looks like their server is a little slow, you may have to refresh the page if it fails)

thanks for the link, I was looking on that board for the answers to these questions also, and from their experiences in larger tanks the large pieces in higher spots of the tank were coming off with the silicone, one guy managed to have it hold on tight with a glue directly on the glass... the reason i want the put it over Styrofoam is because i want to hide my diy overflows with in them, and have a waterfall return from the WD, so i'm going to need around 2-3inches of Styrofoam space behind the slate. So i'm hoping some one on here has experience with spray foam and slate... i know its a long shot but just in case... if not then i'll have to test it out myself
