Monoculus ;)
I'd like to take out the sand in my tank and replace it with something black.

I've looked into 3m color quartz, and I think it's the route I'd like to take.

My question is...is the grade T to large for rays?

I'd like to use the larger grade as it be harder to get sucked up into the filter...

I use S Grade, I just sock the intake with a piece of panty hose.

Actually, as an after thought...T grade should be just fine.

Both are ceramic coated quartz. I went with S grade because the T grade looked rougher.

I have Tahitian Moon in my 55. My daughter bought me 40 lbs of it on my birthday. I bought 100 lbs of Color Quartz for the same amount of money for my big tank. :D

I've got 'S' grade in most my tanks and it doesn't ever get sucked into the filter. My Severum will spit it directly into the filter and that causes a problem but he'd do the same thing with 'T' grade.

I really don't think you'll need to panyhose the intake unless you have a fish that spits sand directy into it. My lowest intakes (FX5's) are 3" above the sand in my Oscar tanks and I never get sand in the intake. If your intakes are higher than that it won't be something you have to worry about.
