north carolina
what should i use to filter this?? My tank will be 15 feet long, five wide and seven high. I am building it on my slab and was wondering if anyone knew where is should put my plumbing. I know i need a drain some where at the bottom and overfill drains at the top. Any help would be great-thanks

Go steal the local public swimming pool filter :)

get some big plastic containers at farm n fleet and make a big butt wet/dry. For filter media you can use a ton of pot scrubbers or a ton of drinking straws cut up or left whole for that big of a filter. You can use almost anything aquarium safe that has a lot of surface area for media.

Where in north carolina are you?

what kind of tank is it? concrete? Are you doing a window? How are you lining your pond? What are you planning on keeping?

just like born2lovefish said build a big *** wet/dry

the tank will be built out of 8 inch block and will be poured solid with concrete. It will have 2 windows 5 foot long and 4 foot high. I plan to keep bass, gar, catfish, and was woundering if chinease perch would live with these. I want to keep wild fish that way i dont have to heat the water. Is there a site i could go on to find out how to build on of these wet/dry fillters? I live in mooresville.

go with HUGE wet drys.... as many/as big as you cna make em

I think He would only need 1 wet/dry but the rule of thumb on wet/drys are that you want them to have the water capacity to hold 1/3 your water in your tank. So for yours you would want a container that could hold 1300 gallons or a bit more. And if your going to use bio-balls I believe it is 1gallon of balls does 30 gallons of water which would make 133 gallons of bio balls. Tho you could use other things such as marbles, lava rock, pot scrubbies.

Here in South Africa most people run high pressure sand filters. They need to be filled with fine gravel not swimming pool sand. You still need to take care of the biological filtration so connect a plastic drum filled with your choice of media to the return line. The nice thing about this setup is that your bio filtration never clogs with solids. I back wash my filter one a week.
