All the 4" koi pond bottom drains I've looked at are primarily designed to be used with liners or concrete ponds. I have a large polyethylene tank (around 1/4" wall thickness) I'm using as a collection sump and need large bottom drains.
I'm currently considering going the cheap route and using 4" uniseals but wanted to check and see if anyone had additional suggestions or first hand experience with bottom drains like THESE. I know the uniseals will work but I will constantly have trouble with waste particles accumulating around the rim. Uniseals do not sit flush against tank bottom and pipe protudes through slightly to ensure a secure seal. Same issue I will run into if I buy expensive 4" heavy duty bulkheads.
Could something like the KoiToilet II or Bottom Drain w 90-Degree Coupling in the link above be modified to provide a proper seal on a 1/4" thick polyethylene container? Anyone with suggestions or first hand experience would be greatly appreciated.
