I have an empty 75 gallon, I was wondering if I could keep 3 or 4 clown loaches in it? I really would love to have some clown loaches.
They only grow slower when they get to about 5-6", otherwise they aren´t being fed optimally if growing slow at smaller sizes. The behaviour of cl´s improves (show less fear) when in a group of at least 8-10 fish. A good end tank size would be a minimum of around 150gal. You can hold them in a smaller tank over long periods but they won´t enjoy it very much. The 150gal is for 4 or 10 fish as the tank size estimate is based on the adult size of cls, not the size of the school.SecretHavenFarm;2541789; said:I thaught I heard some where that they are really slow growers, is this true? What would I need to upgrade too in the future to keep 4?

My fastest growing clown loach needed 2 years to grow from 2 inches to 8 inches and is still growing strongly. I also had a friend years ago who got a cl to grow from 1.5 inches to 6 inches in 6 months by feeding earth worms. The loaches´ partner only reached 2.5 inches on the same diet however. I guess growth rates can vary greatly under optimal conditions. I´ve noticed that some individuals are just plain and simple pigs... I mean pig loaches of course
And just for the record i´m not in agreement with some hobbyists who recommend limiting feeding to keep cl´s small as this affects their health adversely. You should also think about the number of individuals in the school you want to keep cause cl´s do much better above 5 individuals. They´re great fish, you should do them justice though and give them enough space.

Agree with that too. I have seen some people have extraordinary growth like the previous post, but it isn't typical. I think a 75 will provide a decent home for quite a while. Just keep the water clean.
