Gday all,is it normal for a 4'' aro to go on hunger strikes at this size? He was eating mealworms from the previous owner but i started to feed him chopped prawn and he was eatin it but its been 3 days now and hasnt shown any interest in food.his tankmates are 4 3'' pbass.Any ideas? should i go and get some mealworms and try that?

Hey don't worry too much...when i have young arowanas like the same size or smaller like your's mines hasn't ate for about a week to two weeks...and then it gave up and started eating...just give it time and will come out of its shadows and start eating...but i would suggest you get it on some bloodworms...frozen or freeze-dried =]

just let it settle in for now since you say it hasn't ate for 3 days...so it sounds like its still pretty new to the new environment...it'll get used to it...if it was healthy and active and eating back at the LFs when you saw it then it should be ok and will turn out good with time

ive had it for bout a month and it was eating ok,the only change has been that i had 6 pbass in with him and now theres 4.I put pellets and bloodworms in there everyday for the pbass as well so theres a variety to choose from.

When the lights are off he sits under a piece of driftwood then when lights are on he swims at the top of the tank

anything else change with him? swimming pattern? temperment towards tankmates? How new to the tank is he?

ive got a small green aswell and he was very shy when i first put into the tank, after a few days he started eating regularly and hes starting to eat more and more now.
Ive owned him for almost a couple of months now but he is still very shy when the lights are on he usually stays down in the bottom of the tank, soon as its dark enough he comes up and owns the tank like he should.
Little aro's tend to be like that, so i wouldnt worry about it, give it time, it could take a week.

yea from what your saying its normal =] just let it adjust slowly and it'll be fine...next thing yannoe later on it'll be feeding crazy

I just cut up some prawn into some really small sizes and he ate heaps of em! hopefully he keeps it up
