I got to be honest.... I'm a bit jealous every time I watch a YouTube video of someone's monster tank that has a community of large cichlids, including one of these.
It always happens to me where one of my favorite cichlids, the Midas/red devil eventually looses his mind and goes psycho on every fish in the tank. First, my 55 and 75 grow outs... And even my 125. Each time, I would by them young and small... But it doesn't take more than a few weeks before my past repeats itself.
Now, here I am again... Stubborn, hesitant yet hopeful that I can finally have a midevil in a community of other fish.
At the moment, he's about 4 inches... I've had him since he was about 2 inches smaller and he started off in a 55 grow out. After a couple of weeks, my past with these guys slowly but surely began to repeat itself yet again. I eventually transferred him into a 75 that had a lot of caves and hiding spaces where I was keeping my larger Midas. It's been a few weeks now and they seem to be doing fine. Every so often the larger one would do his thing and display dominance, while other times he would be extremely passive. The midevil on the per hand was like a little kid... Testing the big, bad wolf just to see how mad he would really get.
Anyway... Here I am again.... My 220 is in its final stages of being ready. The fish that are in he 55 grow out will eventually be transferred but I was thinking about putting the midevil in there with them... All together again. All the fish going into the tank are about the same size... 3 to 5 inches. A few other cichlids and a few oddballs.
Are there any success stories out there with similar situations? Any stories of even their juvy monster taking over something that large?
