I have just put my seven 2'' RBP into their new 125(72''x18''x24''). I have decided that when the time comes I will only keep 4 or 5 and sell the others. My only wuestion is should I go with an odd number(5) or an even number(4)??? This is my first experience with piranha.:)

well I've never kept pygos so the advice is worth what you pay for it, but I do know a little bit about them

the thing I know is that no matter what the number, they'll pick on the weakest one until he's dead, and then they select another one to pick on and so on and so forth. I don't think they care about odds and evens, but if you remove the one they pick on they immediately perpetuate the cycle by selecting a new peon.

Id say odd number from my experience... We always recommend people to buy in trios so that one can always take a break from chasing and picking from the most dominant.

I'd wait & see out of the seven if any get eaten. When that size they can pick off a runt or weak one. Ending you with less than you wanted, even if they are fed well they still may go after another one. Be aware it can happen and for the 4-5 it wouldn't matter they're in a 125g plenty of room i say keep 5 when they are full grow size & territory wise.

to me, it's more of a personal preference, but if I were you, I'd keep all 7. they do get big but 125g would be fine for a while before you really need to thin out the shoal or upgrade.
once they hit like 7-8" or so their growth slows down to maybe 1" a year or so. you'll have plenty room for 7 rbps as they don't get that big usually. the more important is your filtration needs to be able to handle the load as they get large.

just my 2 cents

:iagree:

makes sense

x2

they should be fine in the 125
re the odd even number on the shoal they would really pick on the weakest
the work around is to keep em well fed and healthy to avoid losses

doesnt matter if you keep odd or even its youre preference but the more the marrier

so keep em all
