Hey guys,

So im just throwing out ideas for a 40" Cube (about 280gal).

Would it be doable to have a mix of cichlids like texas, red devil/midas, Veija etc? Assuming about all the same size? Or are the dimensions too small for this? It's a fair volume, just not very long or wide.

Other ideas are a big pile of rock (probably glued together to prevent slipping from the top and breaking the glass) right in the middle, pyramid in shape with dozens of cavities etc, white sand for the sediment and a mix of rift valley cichlids.

Or any suggestions?

Cheers guys.

Poor dimensions for bigger fish, I like your idea about the rift valley fish though; plenty of nooks and crannies etc.

Big fish would just be miserable and ruin the look of the tank imo

I agree with the others, that tank is a mere puddle, and way too small for any of the fish you mention, unless it was for juvies to grow temporarily.
The fish you suggest need a tank minimum 3 times that size.
If you wanted Central Americans for that tank, something like Cyptoheros nanoluteus, Honduran Red Points, panamense, or rainbow cichlids would be more appropriate.
nanoluteus

Honduran Red Point

imo do the rift valley or a planted tank with a few various dwarf cichlids and a shoal of tetra

Even if its not the best shape.... its still 280g, it will still have a nice amount of length, and width to it. I agree with the bullies though, I think it would look cool with a oscar school and some severums with lots of plants and green scenery, given the oscars leave em alone

It's a cube though, so a 12" cichlid would have under 3 and a half times its body length in any direction save corner to corner? Wouldnt be me doing it anyway, it can be done with maybe a single cichlid, anymore than 1 and they will kill each other in that footprint imo

Oh I guess I over estimated the size a 280G would be, but I still think he should do a Oscar and severum do digg oflr whatever lol don't quote me on the # of fishies though
