I currently have a 40 gal tall planted aquarium! It's been going for 8 weeks now but my plants aren't taking of as we'll as I feel like they should! I am running a 300watt halogen light on this aquarium and its 3000k. I have a co2 system on and air orator that comes on at night! Some of my plants have really been taking off and others are really not showing much improvement. It is currently house a orino p-bass that's roughly 5 inches... Don't worry this is just being used as a grow out tank until he can go into my 240gal... I'm really wondering if the lighting is my problem. Let me know what y'all think!

Does the light run across the whole length of the tank?
How far is the light from the tank itself?

- And I agree with ^ Joe..., I've used plant fertilizer in the past and it helps.

The light covers the entire aquarium! It's got roughly 8 watts per gallon! I'm going to def add fertilizers I had been thinking I should. It is a fitted aquarium so I was kinda thinking I could get away with out fertilizers! I have a video of it on YouTube. User name: swampjackjr

I also noticed at least one of your plants is still in the plastic pot holders, so maybe that might also play some part in the growth?

But i definitely agree you need to add ferts to a planted tank, just lights and Co2 doesnt always work if you want a really healthy / luscious planted tank...

Add a layer of ecological potting soil (1 inch is enough] and top it with gravel thick enough to vacuum, if your into that, and you wont need any co nor fertilizer. You'll need to wait a week or so before adding fish tho as it can take a while for the plants to deal with what ever is in the soil (check for nitrite and amonia)

Your light optimally should be 6500k. And your "bubbler" is offgassing your co2. Ive been using a $20 shoplight with daylight bulbs and getting decent growth.
