so im putting together a heavilly planted 40 gallon breeder Dwarf Puffer tank. im wondering how many i can put in there. I bought 8 the other day but was thinking of getting a few more, would 12 or 14 work in a 40 breeder? so far it looks great, ill post pics later. so, how many can i fit in there?

12 would be right on the mark using the one male to two female per ten gallon rule just get the lowest #of males like no more then 4. you could probably do a few more tho.

Sadly they are too small to sex so i just have to get a group and see how it goes. They are slightly less than half an inch and they all look the same, can anyone sex them this young?
I havnt seen sexable dwarfs anywhere for a while now, i assume cause more people are breeding so they can get them smaller

here is the tank, there are 8 of them in there now, if the sex ratio becomes a problem as they mature well, ill just have to remove extra males

females are rounder and males have a brown stripe down their belly i believe is the way of sexing. but not that iive seen your tank you could do way more cause theres alot of breaks in their lines of sight buy too many males and there will be lots of fighting

Great looking tank... i have a feeling you shouldn't have to many aggression problems in there... plenty of places to hide, and a lot of decorations to break up lines of sight...

Thanks, im hoping it all works out, i got four more yesterday so there is 12 now. At this point until the males get that line on their bellies or get those blue marks around their eyes all i can do is guess at the sex. Im just gonna watch and see, remove males if it becomes a problem. They are all happy and swimming together, and they started eating last night. Thanks for the advice guys

Oh thanks, its always nice when someone else likes the tank too. So far im really liking the multiple puffers in one tank thing. Watching them interact and zip around like little bees, before this ive only had a couple of the solo species
