I have an empty 40 breeder 36x18 and was thinking of maybe a convict,female texas and something else not sure will this work and what else could go in there.

HRP would be a good idea. Dwarf cichlids or small pikes. If it was my tank I would do the HRP. They are my next project

my fish store has convicts and texas cichlids so i was thinking maybe a male convict and a female texas,but not sure how big female texas cichlids get.

well I went with a pair of convicts.I think they will do well in their new 40 breeder with lots of plants,cave,driftwood and sand bottom the tank looks great.who knows maybe som baby convicts soon.
convicts will do great in a tank that size. If you have a male and female you will undoubtedly have fry soon!
