Hello i have been looking at different HOT filters; i have a question about filter prices and companies. The first is Hagens aquaclear 110 and the second is marinelands 400 GPH filters dont know the actual name. I have found the ac for 70 and the marineland for 60 good?

I'm a big Aquaclear fan, so I'd go with the ac110 for your 40g... though the ac70 would also do fine, depending on your bio load.
Petsmart.com has the ac110 listed for $63.99... a pretty good price, IMO. You can always price match the online price at your local Petsmart.

Or if your petsmarts accept other ads like DFS, then this ad is your best bet. Just print it out and give it to the cashier.

I have heard nothing but good things about the aquaclear 110 and I am also going to use the following ad to get myself the ac110. Personally, my favorite filters are the emperors and aquaclears because each has their own job which they are great at doing. For your 40 gallon an ac110 or an emp 400 is fine, but I also have a 40 gallon where I am going to use an emp 400 and ac110 on, simply because when they are paired up, you will have the ulitmate set of HOB filters to clean your tank for healthy, sparkling, crystal clear water.

Pet Smarts ar not supposed to take ads from other online retailers (just their own website) but not all of the employees ar knoledgable about it. call ahead and ask then make sure you go to that same person at the checkout line.
