Hello everyone!

I am moving in a month and the apartment I am signing for has a 50 gallon limit on tanks in the apartment. Right now, I have a 75 gallon tank that I have a Common Musk Turtle (about 3"), 5 cory cat fish and a bristlenose pleco. With my 75 gallon tank, I bought everything on Craigslist and it came with a nice stand. I was thinking to solve this I could get a 40 gallon long tank that is 48"x13x16" so it is the same length, but not the same width. Would I be able to use my old 75 gallon stand and place the new 40 gallon tank on it and have the stand support the weight of the tank and water? I am only going to have 12" of water in the tank, so there will be 32 gallons of water. Is there anything I can do to help support the weight such as putting plywood over the top? Or should I just find a new tank/stand on craigslist?

Also for filtration I am using a diy 20 gallon long wet/dry trickle filter. So I need to be able to fit a 20L underneath.

Thanks for the help and I hope this doesn't sound like too dumb of a question.

Adam

You can get some 2 x 4's to span the length to set the tank on, or best way would be to get some 3/4" plywood to cover the top of the stand then set the tank on it.

Honestly...your complex wouldn't know the difference between a 75 and 50 gallon tank. You prolly could've just kept the 75. But OhioCatman has a great suggestion.

keep the 75 they wont be able to tell .. or use ply wood for the new tank...:)
