40 is a 30

I just measured the "40" gallon tank I bought from a guy and its really 30 gallons. Is there any thing cool that I could keep in it that would make me want to keep the tank?

Yeh, i had the same problem with a 55 turned out to hold 52 gallons or something. There's quite a bit taht culd eb put into a 40 mostly smaller fish obviously, what kind of fish are you interesting in?

I wanted to get an oscar, senegalus, or a dojo loach. I like things that are predatory or just look like it, or just unusual. What would you suggest for the 30?

Even a 40 would have been to small for an Oscar...unless it was just a growout tank. You could get a pair of convicts for the 30 or some german rams would be very cool.

I always ask for measurements before picking up a used tank.

Well the guy said it was 36" long and 40 gallons so I assumed it was a 40 breeder...I was wrong. I was thinking about blue rams, they really are nice, I could keep khuli loaches with them right?

a small group of African Shell dwellers would be OK in a 30g.

The shell dwellers are not very pretty but the shell thing is cool. How many can I keep in a 30 gallon 36" x 12" x 16"?
