Okay, so I've been given the opportunity to purchase a 400gal aquarium, predrilled with 2 holes (one on each side).

Dimensions are 10ftX6ft3inX2ft

I'm not sure I'm prepared to set it up NOW being that I'm fairly new in the hobby and I'd need to build a stand OR wait until my master suite is built and put it up there, BUT, my inexperienced mind is telling me that at $450 (I'd offer $400) is a good deal for a tank of this size. Am I correct?

Also, if you were setting up a tank like this, what would you put?

I don't know if this tank was kept saltwater or freshwater (I still need to ask the seller), so suggestions for both would be great.

I'm going to list things I like/I'm interested in, and maybe you can tell me what would work together, what is mutually exclusive, etc and how you would setup a tank system like this.

I like sharks, rays, and eels.

I like bright, colorful, and oddball fish. (if I do freshwater, I do not want to sacrifice COLOR)

I would like to add the most interesting, colorful fish I can (willing to spend up to $500/fish if there is one that is calling to be in my tank)

The tank is going to be put up for looks so looks are very important to me

If I miss out on this one, I'll still be looking for more tanks for the future, 400 gallon +

I would not be against going larger!

that would be a pretty amazing CA/SA cichlid tank, and then some of the more colorful plecos like the scarlet pleco and the gold nugget. It would also be alot cheaper than salt, as well as alot easier to take care of. Trust me, I keep both salt and fresh, and the freshwater is a breeze compared to the saltwater.

Well if you do not want to sacrifice color and you are going freshwater than i would say go african. Even though I am into the central americans because I like there personality. I think the prettiest fish come from africa.

have a look at festae cichlids they are very colorfull, maybe ebjd and some other fish like that, some afrikans would be cool too, you could also add some cool rays, go freshwater

Is it just me or does something not seem right about this? Those dimensions are for a roughly 900 gallon tank. No way a 400. And where are you that you found a 900 for $450?
