I recently crashed my Z car, nothing serious, just bumber bender. My dad fixed the comsteic part but I found something wrong engine wise.

The car starts "fine". It will drive fine. When I accelerate, the RPM's go up but stop at 4000 and the engine spaz's out, making the car very jerky. It will not go up any more, even with the foot to the floor. This happends in all the gears. It does not happen in neutral though.

Today I drove it at lunch and it when tall the way up to 6 grand and shifted. Thats how it normaly does it. Once school was over, the car whent back to being bad.

Now my car has a top speed of 130K insted of the 200K.

Can someone help me solve the problem.

What year is it? I'll try and post some trouble shooting links later
 
Is the check engine light on? Flashing or constant?

If it is on, see if you can get the trouble code. You would have to have the car hooked up to a scanner to do this.

If it isn't on, I would start by checking the fuel pressure and changing the fuel filter. The accident could have jarred some sediment/rust loose from the fuel tank and partially clogged the fuel filter. Fuel filters are relatively inexpensive and should be replaced on a regular basis anyhow.

I would also check for any kind of obstruction in the air intake system.

Will do. I have a fuel filter here that I was suppost to put on. Wil do that afte school tomorrow. I will take pics. I willl take appart the intake and re-fit it. making sure everything is where its suppost to be.

My light is not on. I don't even have a regular "check engine light" mine looks like a gazibo. lol
 
Well, the distributor cap is on right, not loose or anything. I don't know about the timming.
 
Sounds like Limp mode. Check engine light on?
 
I think it's the timming. My car struggles to idle and when I put it in reverse, it stalls if I don't give it gas. I always thought it was because of clogged fuel injectors, I had that problem last year. I will have the timming checked out asap, I will also be changing the fuel filter tomorrow, I can do that myself.

Took me about $1500 to find out what was wrong with the srt-4. haveing 492 hp and having no first gear really sucked. It idled great but if you reved it to 2k+ is would sputter out and jerk. Then on top of that in first gear you could get to 2500-3k and it would do the same thing and jerk and give you whip lash. all the other gears went almost to 6500 then did the same thing. took it to two tuning places, one told me fuel pump other told me injectors.

I took it to a buddies and it kept throwing back a tp sensor error back. Bought a new tp sensor. Nothing. I was p.o'd so i jerked up on my wire harrness and guess what?? All it was the whole time was a god dang short in a wire. Ordered a new wire harrness set and bam. Not that first gear is anything but spinning but hey =].

I doubt thats whats wrong with yours but an idea.other than that I think its your timing is off.
