How many of your chambers are filled with bio? I filled 3 with BIO and 1 with absolutely nothing. I used to use carbon from an AC70 in it. Then really didn't see a need for the carbon because I do regular changes.
For me it has been about 10 months with 2 405s without changing the media. I just rinse one whole tray in scalding hot water once a month. The good bacteria can double in 24 hours under optimal conditions. The following month I totally clean another tray. Then I totally clean the 3rd tray the third month.
The ceramic is still holding good. I think the book said every 3 months. I may do it at the 1 year mark.
