Hi guys, been browsing the forums for the past couple of days and decided to finally ask a question. I recently found a 40B that the neighbor was throwing away, it has a shattered bottom. I don't have a lot of money for glass in my area (the glass shops are stupid expensive), but I do have a mirror that will fit after cutting it one time to fit. Has anyone ever tried to see if a mirror will be able to work as the "floor" of a tank? I will have to tear down the tank completely to get all the shards out of the bottom, he had a 9ft python that lived in it until it broke the bottom. I don't care how it will look, it will not be on display. I was thinking of either using it as a breeder or a sump for a 50G that I found as well.
I can't work due to an injury at work. I have tons of time to work on things, just no money. I have a 30G that I rescued from the trash collector, everything that is in it is second hand or re-purposed. The only things I have spent full retail on was 4 2x4s and nails to build the stand. It is really hard to fund a hobby with a fixed income, normally I'd just do 10 hours of OT to buy something I want. I'm hoping to get the 50G and 40B ready to run sometime and get some local fish from a pay-to-fish pond. Rather give those fish a better home
without the threat of becoming dinner.
