in a pineapple under the sea.
I will be setting up a 40g FOWLR aquarium with adequate filtration and I'm curious about what I can stock it with. I'm very interested in predators and would much rather a single lionfish over a community tank. So what do you guys think I could put in here? I know the question is very broad, but hopefully I can get a bunch of different opinions. Thanks in advance! :)

Use the 40 gal. as a sump for a 120 gal or more and you got options til then your options are too slim to none to even comment on. If you want a 40gal predatory tank probably your only real option is freshwater Exodons. Big Fish need Big Tanks.

In 40g you could do a dwarf lion, and other sedentary ambush predators - some scorpions, anglers, and hawkfishes that dont get too big.

This all revolves on your ability and budget ($$$) to get and do what is right to keep h2o quality up with a dirty predator.

hawkfish are awesome. they would be my first reccommendation

Not all hawkfish will work in a tank this size...but some will.

They OP can check here...or find info elsewhere on tank sizes for those fish easily though.
