I have a 40 gallon long fish tank with an AC 70 and an emperor 280 filter with a 100w heater and large piece of drift wood. Stock is (6) 3" - 4" keyhole cichlids, (2) 3" and 5" festivums, (6) 1" - 2" bronze corys, (6) 2" white skirt tetras, (1) 1" glowlight tetra, (1) 3" clown pleco, and (1) 2" South American puffer. My pH is 7.6, ammonia 0.25, nitrite 0, and nitrates 80+.

Does anyone have any feedback on this setup? I want to get rid of one the festivums and maybe some tetras. Also how do I lower the nitrates?

was your tank cycled? I'd do some water changes to drop that nitrate issue if I was you.

What is your water change schedule like ? Do you test the water regularly? Do you over feed ?

Look into a product call purigen. Allot of use use it to help keep nitrates in check between water changes.

Seems like that tank is pretty heavily stocked i would be doing multiple large wc's a week and/or reduce the stock a bit
