Hey guys
I went and picked up a new tank today, fully cycled for $100
The dimensions are
120,35,35
The thing is it came with 2 red devils that are around 20cms each
Would they be able to stay in the tank or should i get rid of them
Thanks

If dimensions are in centimeters yes I would get rid of atleast one if you planned on upgrading. Red Devils grow large and aggressive.

A 40 gal tank isn't big enough for even one devil long term unfortunately, let alone two.

If you can manage a (much) bigger tank then keep the devils, they're beautiful intelligent fish. But they don't deserve to be in cramped quarters for life. On the plus side, there are lots of pretty fish that would work in a tank that size.

Congrats on the new tank. :)

Thank you, I was originally going to get a oscar because the dimensions were a 5ftx2x2 but it wasn't and it had the devils
What I'm going to do is but a new tank for them but I'm just wondering what size. Thanks for your help

At a minimum you'd maybe want a 6'x2' footprint, height doesn't matter too much but still needs to be taller than the fish's body will be.

I've never kept a large devil but I did keep a large geo of a similar size to an adult devil. I had him in a 5' 400ltr tank and it was way too small for him. That's why I recommended at least a 6'x2' footprint, plus from what I've read, your devils will likely be more aggressive than my geo, especially because they will be sharing with each other - my geo was never kept with other cichlids.

Here's a pic of him in the above mentioned 400ltr tank, he grew a bit more after this picture was taken, but was about 12" when it was:

Unfortunately I don't have a FTS I can share. :(

To keep the two red devils, I would recommend a 125 gallon or larger tank. They may or may not get along, I always find 2 to be the worst number when it comes to cichlids, but perhaps since they seem to have grown up together, they will be friends. Or maybe they are a pair, time will tell.

Thank you,
I've been looking at a 4x2x2 tank which equals put to around 120g would that be enough or should i try and get a 5ft

4' probably won't be enough of a footprint, the 6x18 125 would actually be better imo to allow more room for territory. But likelihood is that it's either going to work or isn't, in a 4x2 or 6x18. More likely that it won't unless they are a breeding pair

6x2x2.5

Ignore the 2 pb.. that has been sold

Also not 100% red devil but hybrid of sorts

Sizes are 10,11 and 12 inches
