I've got a new forty gallon(36"x15"x16") and I'm looking for ideas.....I definetly want another type of predator, but one that won't outgrow the tank.....The only things I'm steering away from African cichlids, oddballs, and Oscars.......that's about it...........any ideas would be great.....thanks everyone.......

Most of the predators are considered Oddballs?

I'm a big fan of a Brackish predator tank.. In that size tank, you could do 2x Figure-8 Puffers and a Butis Butis.. Would be a great mix, fun and entertaining.. :) I've done something very similiar, and everyone always loved that tank.

Hmmm... scats or monos? Or ya think thats too big, either way they can deal with puffers. Thats all I got to say about that Jenny. Life is like a box of... what the hell?

sorry for the confusion.....when i said oddballs i meant no knives or anything like that......i was thinking about the puffers though.........i know they require brackish water but i've never done a brackish tanks.......what does it take to have one? just adding salt or is there other things? ........i'll start doing my research.........thanks everyone.........

Brackish requires some more work that FW, but it's nothing you can't handle. Mostly it's just adding salt, usually no less than a tablespoon per gallon. Here's some help with your research. Puffers rock, but also look at monos or archer fish. I had a chance to pick up some puffers and archers dirt cheap when the LFS down the street went under, but I didn't. I've been kicking myself ever since.

Brackish tanks are cool. Archers would be neat, or maybe a partially filled tank with some anableps. My lfs jsut got some of those in and I've been thinking about picking them up. I hear they're easy to breed too.

I think archers may get too big for that size tank, If you want to try puffers look for a.modestus or "bronze puffer" I think it's called, from what I know they are fresh water not brackish and I saw one feed, mean as heck!! You can also try leaf fish, dwarf pike cichlids, exodons, small catfish, dwarf lionfish(salt)etc.etc. I have been searching for mini monsters myself! I have a green spotted puffer and I am enjoying it! Brackish isnt too hard, like they said the main thing is to add some salt, Let us know what you pick!
