My gf has a 45 gallon bowfront currently cicling, she would want to have some colourful african cichlids, she would want to have baby fish, so it needs to have at least a pair, preferably between 6 and 10 fish

What are the tank dimensions? That's most important with Malawi cichlids. Fish from lake tank form pairs so may work in a smaller tank. Are there any certain fish that shes interested in?

im not sur of the dimensions but i know its not that high, its more wide than high thats for sur and its about 4feet long i would guess, and no were not familiar woth africans, i only have experience with americans, so any colourful peaceful cichlids would work

The easiest option would probably be Pseudotropheus saulosi. Males are blue with bars and females are yellow. Maybe 3m/10f. Another peaceful option would be yellow labs and rusties, 1m/3-4f of each. Do you have a plan for the fry born?

yeah, i personaly have lots of growout tanks i could use, and theres 4 LFS that were always willing to buy some of my fry

would lemon jakes work instead of rusties or the yellow lab ?

Lemon Jakes are a member of the Jacobfreibergi peacocks, which are on the more aggressive end. They might work, or you could end up with a super aggressive male that terrorizes everyone else. If you try them do 1m/4f, the females will be drab brown though. Make sure you tank is at least 48" first, I wouldn't try them in a smaller tank.

in your opinion it would be better the yellow labs and rusties ?

For someone just getting into African cichlids I would say so, they may squabble but never get to the point of harming each out so it takes away a lot of stress in the owner. Not to mention people are always looking for quality lab fry since a lot in the hobby are poorly bred or hybrids.
