Hi everyone. My friend is getting his first saltwater tank. It's a 45 gallon. (I don't know the dimensions) What are some good beginner fish that he can put in there? What kind of stocking would you do? Please tell me what species and how many. I think he wants two clownfish. What other fish could he put in there?

dasmels, firefish, gobies, blennies, dwarf angels, hawkfish, stonefish frogfish and dwarf lions (if he decides to forgo the clowns) the list is pretty long

gobies and blennies are easy and have a lot of personality. also some of the best looking fish. if he does decide he wants some corals later on down the road he will be able to get them.

:iagree:

45 gallon would be great for a reef. its not a huge tank so it would be easy and cheaper to stock. gobies are by far my favorite becasue of the color that they range with. good luck with your quest for cool fish, and remember theirs many possabilities but they dont all work together!!

if i were you i would not recommend the stonefish, the scorpionfish or any lionfish regular sized or dwarf, all of them have a very poisionous venom and in some cases are lethal to humans. they are not the fish for a beginner, and are really only suited for experienced keepers who know what they are doing.
