Setting Up A 450 Gallon Freshwater Predator Tank.

Fish Are Silver Arowana, Clown Knife, Orange Spotted Moto Stingray And A Fire Eel.

I Have 2 FX5 Filters, Was Wondering What Media Would Work The Best For This Kind Of Tank.

I Am Currently Using Top Tray - Rena Bio-Chem Stars
Middle Tray - Seachem Purigen
Bottom Tray - Carbon

As Far As Maintenance Goes, I Am Doing Approx 10% - 15% Water Change Weekly, Also Cleaning Inside Of Glass And Syphoning The Poo Out.
I Am Also Cleaning 1 Filter Out And Replacing The Purigen And Carbon Every 2 Months.

If Some With A Predator Tank This Size Or Bigger Could Help Me Out With This That Would Be Awesome.

I would toss the carbon in the filters, put in some more bio-media such as ceramic rings (cheap on Ebay) and call it a day.

Are you wanting suggestions on whether or not to add more filtration?

My 450g is a bit more stocked than yours, but I'm doing 50% water changes about every 5 days as my nitrates are usually getting close to 40ppm by the 5th day. I've been overfeeding and need to cut back.

I'm running an 80g sump connected to a 5800gph pump.

If your nitrates are in check, you shouldn't have to worry, but I would definitely be checking your water parameters to make sure.

It seems every week, I find out something new to make mine run more effeiciently.

are nitrite and ammonia always at 0 ppm? How high is the nitrate? Is the water cloudy at all/particles in the water? Unless you have nitrite or ammonia in the water, the filtration is doing its job. If the nitrate level is super high, you need to do more water changes.
If the water doesn't look clean, you need more mechanical filtration.

Otherwise, you're fine for now.

I think you would get more bang for the buck with bio-media instead of the carbon.

I have a 450 also, I have a heaver stocking than you so more filtration. I think your stocking/filtration combo is fine.

If you add more fish or really start to power feed and grow them out, just throw on another FX5 and/or increase water changes.

Would love to see some pics

agree with other in regards to get rid of carbon and add bio media.
