I'm worrying about my fx5 being too much for my 46 gallon bow front tank. I dont have it setup, but that is the filter i have, so would like to use it. This will be housing malawi cichlids. should i be worrying? Has anyone else done something similar. thanks.

Sounds like a lot to me. If you already have it, give it a try. It won't cost you anything if it doesn't work. I believe you could also limit the output a little, I'm sure some one will correct me if I'm wrong.

Should be fine... you could always DIY on the output to split up the current more but I find the output stream on my fx5 is not overwhelming with the dual output nozzle on. If I take it of it blows substrate below it to high heaven, but with dual output it seems to tame it. Play around with the direction and you should be able to figure it out to where it doesn't affect your fish.

thanks i also was thinking about the dual directional spout, having one pointing up would probably lower my flow. thanks again.
