Once i move my africans in about 2 weeks i would like to turn my 46 gallon into a pleco community tank. Would a sand Substrate be ok? Of course id have a nice fat peice tasty peice of driftwood in there but my main question is what plecos can i put into it. The Dimensions are 36" long, 18" at the center of the bow and 20" tall. i believe its around 12 inches wide at the sides.

You can put a lot into the tank. I'm not going to list them all, as there are literally hundreds that fit into that category. List some features of the plecos you want, and we will help from there.

sand is often a very good substrate for them (or fine gravel). If you ask them to order them in, or even order online... the amount of plecos you can have are endless. Are you looking to breed them? Are you looking for a bunch of smaller plecos, or fewer bigger ones..? There really is over a hundred pleco species that would fit in that tank... In genus terms, you could do Ancistrus, Hypancistrus, plenty of Peckoltia, small Panaques (Panaqolus if you want to use that term), Chaetostoma, even some Ancistrini/Oligancistrus/Leporacanthicus etc. Theres too many my head might explode... that isn't even all...

Well I have a tank of a similar size with a few L. heterodon's, Hypancistrus sp. 'L260' and Hypancistrus sp. 'monte dourado'. Actually, I won't go through all the combinations I've had lol, I'd be hear all day trying to remember them! You are right on the Queen arabesques are musts  I'd stay away from the Baryancistrus sp. gold nuggets though, All the phantoms are pretty cool. If you could get a really blue Hemiancistrus sp. 'L128' that would be awesome with some QA. Maybe a B. demantoides would be cool too.

Of course davo will recommend the queens, and I'll recommend the phantoms... Hence our avatars. :D There are so many you could do. I too would avoid the GN's for a tank with queens. You might also look into an L239.

I dont know the L number or how they would do with the QA but another mush is a Titanic pleco!
