I've had this tank sitting and collecting dust for 2 years.. I have been waiting for the right opportunity to set it up specifically for a low-light easy growth no maintenance display tank.
I used about 40 lbs of Flourite as my base substrate.
I seperated the foreground from the background using some long rectangular pieces of slate. Towards the front I used play sand, and in the back I used florabase. Florabase is suppose to buffer your pH to 6.5-7.0 and is considered a premium planting media. I tried to re-inact a similiar 'divided' substrate technique that Takashi Amano uses in many of his tanks.
So far I only have a few of the plants I intend to add, but will be looking forward to adding more soon. I plan on filling the far corners with a large amount of red ludwigia and jungle val / corkscrew val.. I am hoping the Java ferns will cover the entire driftwood centerpeice, and I hope to add java moss near the filter and heater area soon.
The tank won't be near completed until it has had a few months to grow out..
But this is what I have done so far: Still a little cloudy from a bacterial bloom.
Inhabitants include: 6 Bolivian Rams, 9 Colombian red/blue Tetra, 1 L204 Flash Pleco...
