I am looking at a monster tank that is for sale in my area. It is 84 inchs x 34 inchs X 39 inchs tall. It is all 3/4" glass with double layers on the front back and bottom ( 2 x 3/4 " ). The sides are only one layer. The bottom also has a layer of plywood. This is a brand new tank that has been drilled as a reef tank with 6 overflows. Also included is a 90 gallon sump with 2 pumps and a metal stand. I have never had a tank this size or known anyone personally that has and am gunshy of jumping into a purchase like this without getting as much info as possible. My main question is if the glass thickness is normal and second if having six overflows will effect the strength of the bottm glass. Also is there any reason that a tank set up to be a reef tank could not be used for freshwater. Any info will be greatly apretiated. Thanks in advance for any responces.

Can you get pics of the tank?

I don't understand the double layers? Do you mean two layers sandwiched together?

3/4" is ok for that size.

How much?

Overflows...depends on how close they are to sides and each other.

I have not yet seen the tank as it is a 2 hour drive from here. I am going by my discussions with the seller. The tank front and back and bottom have 2 layers 0f 3/4 inch glass sandwitched together. It was custom ordered for commercial use in a store. It has 2 overflows and also has 6 closed loops for water circulation. I don't know how these work but it was made to be a reef tank. I will try to get pictures.

Sounds heavy duty. Could always sell lobster out of it. ;)

Good luck with it, hope to see pics

double layer.i c it but double layer.

''Also is there any reason that a tank set up to be a reef tank could not be used for freshwater.''

that just means it has holes in it.
ofcourse you can use it for freshwater fish.

dayum 39in deep. better get scuba sertified for matinence

An inch and a half of glass?!! Geese who's army is gonna lift that thing.
I say go for it, Make it a really nice F/W tank, and never look back...:nilly:

Does anyone know how to calculate the weight of the tank glass only. My best guess is almost 1100 lbs but that seems crazy.
