So I'm planning on buying a 100g, 48Lx24Wx21T tank, possibly this weekend. I've already got the substrate (PFS) and filtration (Eheim 2217) planned, and am thinking I'll do a DBN background as well, to really snazzy the tank up :D.

This tank is going to be for geophagus, probably exclusively, although I may end up throwing some tetra's in there as well. My current eartheaters are as follows: 3 Satanoperca jurapari, 2 Geo. dicrozoster/abalios, and 6 brasiliensis.

I was wondering if you guys thought the 36-48" Marineland Double Bright LED would be a good light for this tank, since its only 21" tall?

If not, what other options do you think would work for this tank? I like the idea of LED's, but don't really want to deal with DIY at the moment. I do plan on building a nice canopy eventually for this tank, and could possibly consider DIY then, but I'd rather just buy something I can plug in out of the box.

So what say you, MFK brethren?

Hey bro! I just bought the 48" Marineland double bright LED fixture for my 120 gallon. Same footprint just 3" taller. Hold off on buying anything and I'll get you pics of mine to see if you like it. It should be delivered today before 3pm. My 120 gallon also has a DBN background so it sounds like this is right up your alley on showing how it could look.

Awesome, thanks JK! You're the reason I'm looking at DBN backgrounds (or backgrounds at all) in the first place. Although the ones I really like are either out of my price range or sold out right now. There are a few I still like though.

Yeah, if the Doublebright looks good on your 120g, it should be fine on my 100g, since its shorter.

I really need to upgrade these eartheaters (there in a 56g tank right now with 9 discus... :shakehead), and I've decided I really want to try making a "show" tank this time.

You know, something that someone will look at and laugh after they've seen one of your threads?

Thanks for the kind words Conner! I don't build my tank to compete, just to hang out with my kids and play with tanks. You should email Matt over at DBN. They just got a new shipment in a week or so ago and he may make you a deal or have something not posted yet. His username on MFK is "Shyro77" if you want to send him a PM. I have been argueing with myself to not buy the new mangrove that just came in.

I'm glad your getting into eartheaters, that's my specialty.. ;) If you have any questions or need any help drop me a PM any time. I just recently switched over to CA's but still keep one tank of rare Satanoperca.

Hey, you may not build to compete, but the quality you produce could win contests for sure. I just hope to make something that I can be happy with, and hopefully my fiance will like enough to forgive me buying another tank...

I love eartheaters, and I've been finding some nice midsize juvies for sale as trade-ins lately. I'm finally dedicating a tank to them, and I want to do them justice. I've got an ID thread of in the Central/South American forum if you haven't checked it out yet.
